ADVANCE SCOUT: Lean, Mean, and Foxy

SITUATION:

It’s almost Halloween, so of course its time for that rare, ugly beast of comics to rear its head: the dreaded FIFTH WEEK.

There is very little out from most publishers this week, which is a kind move in a market where readers are already shelling out for a great many titles every Wednesday. Capeless’ own Alex Smith took an early look at this week’s TMNT Microseries featuring Bebop and Rocksteady, as well another throwback title in Ash and the Army of Darkness. Luckily, if you happen to have some comic money left over, this is a great week to dig into some titles that may have flown under your radar.

Neil Gaiman is returning to what is inarguably one of the greatest creations in comics history. On art is J.H. Williams, one of the most celebrated artists in the industry. This book has everything a discerning reader could ask for, and will likely fly off shelves.

This will be a title that everyone, even non-comic fans, is talking about, and you won’t want to be left behind.

Whatever Marvel has planned for the Ultimate universe begins now. Speculations have circulated for months that the book might finally be closing on what was once a grand experiment in rebooting continuity, with would have certain implications for popular characters like Miles Morales if true.

3. “The Fox #1″

“The Fox #1″ Mark Waid, Dean Haspiel Red Circle Comics $2.99

Mark Waid is veritable font of comic book knowledge, so his choosing to take his talents to a classic character like The Fox is more than understandable. What will be interesting to watch is how Waid manages to manage the transition for the character from his classic setting to a world beset by the evils of social media.

ANALYSIS

Since your bellies will be heavy with candy, it was a good week to keep things light on your wallet. This week’s books are all sure to be fascinating fodder for conversation, and should all be quite a treat as well.
