Last week, DC Comics launched their Villains Month event with the first issue of “Forever Evil”, an issue which contained events whose ramifications should be felt throughout the DC Universe.

With the shocking revelation of Nightwing’s true identity on global broadcast near the end of DC’s “Forever Evil #1″, the world now knows the identity of a character with connections to Batman and perhaps every other member of the Justice League.

Since the launch of the New 52, DC has placed a much greater emphasis on the interaction between their super hero community, the media within their universe, and the general public.

The Justice League of America was formed as a direct reaction on the part of the United States government to the foundation of an unaffiliated, unaccountable Justice League made up of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Flash and Aquaman. Each member of the JLA was recruited to match up with and counter a specific member of the Justice League, and the conflict between the two was a central piece of the recently-concluded Trinity War.

Revealing Dick Grayson’s identity to the public is surely no small matter, and it is reasonable to expect that the PR fallout from Grayson’s outing to be explored at length in upcoming stories.

With super hero identities out in the open, can it be long before the people start to demand greater accountability from their costumed protectors?
